Even though the American School Directory now shares a "disclaimer" in a proninent spot on the home pages they provide for American Schools which (if you click on it) clarifies that the page is unauthorized, MapQuest now directs visitors to the ASD version of the school web site as if it were the real thing. http://www.mapquest.com I noticed this when seeking a map for a speech in New Hampshire. First I found the town. Then I asked for the schools. It showed their locations with icons and printed a list of telephone numbers and addresses below which included a hyperlink "Visit the Site." Thinking I would find the high school's Web site, much to my dismay I found myself at the ASD version complete with magazine subscription offers and all the other features we have been complaining about. Perhaps each school could ask MapQuest to list their REAL site? or stop listing an unauthorized site? If they experienced the same kind of pressure mounted against ASD, perhaps marketing folks would stop trying to exploit the school/Web connection without permission?
