We have been having a discussion at our PreK - 8th school as to when it is
appropriate to introduce the Internet and web searching to the students.
This year our 4th grade teachers expect their students to use a web site
for part of their country reports. We (the librarians) feel that the
children should be introduced to some basic skills for navigating the web.
Granted we are grappling with the issue of what do the teachers really
want from the students. One teacher explained that she wanted her students
to see that information comes from a wide range of sources. We realize
that students will peruse the web at home, but we don't control that
aspect.

My questions to the group are these: At what grade are your students
introduced to the World Wide Web? In what grade are they introduced to the
basic skills for navigating the Web? Finally who does the teaching, the
tech teachers or the librarians? Please respond to me at my home address
which is the following cecily@beartrack.com Thank you in advance.
