Target: Adult books for jr.high

Dear fellow booklovers,
 Students at my school are asking for Stephen King, Clive Cussler, and
some Tom Clancy novels. So many kids seem to want to skip the young
adult novels. As a first year librarian, I want to meet the requests of
my patrons but I'm not familiar with most of the adult authors they
mention besides Clancy, Grishom, ang Mary Higgins Clark. I have bought
some of her novels but what about the rest?  Which adult authors/books
would you have for a seventh/eighth student body?  Thanks for any
advice.
 Oh, and does anyone have any information about a movie made based on
the book DEATHWATCH by Robb White?  A teacher believes it was called
"Savages" and included Andy Griffith in the cast. I can't find it.
