Thank you Debbie Dodd!  maybe this little "custom" just skipped New Jersey.
Born & bred here and Irish on both sides I had never heard of this either.
Maybe it's because of 13 years of Catholic schooling (where you'd never pinch
no matter what) But I went to public college & grad school and have worked her
for 26 years...we just don't do it.
