inadvertantly!

Why not suggest they order a program that does two things at once...create
MARC records while creating catalog cards?  I know that Brodart's PRECISION
ONE does this, though I don't use the card feature. There may be other
programs that do this just as well, or better That way, when they are ready
automate they will have the original cataloging that they have already
done--as long as they SAVE THE DISKS!  It may be a little more expensive to do
it this way, but you sure can pull double duty from it.  They can also begin
creating records for things in their collection as they go along...even if it
is in bits and pieces, it is a start!

Last time I priced P1 it was $500.00 for one year subscription on 2 cd-roms.
One is retrospective through 1989 and the the other is a quarterly up date of
all print, nonprint, etc. from 1989.  It contains about a million records for
books most commonly found in our situations.

Lastly...please remind you students to order MARC records from each jobber
when they order books and cards....and to NEVER  throw them away!!!!!
