LM_NET 07/16/98: No Subject

A few of you have, in response to my thank you, asked me to post what info I
received.  Basically, I had the title wrong and c
uld not find the book.  I
was looking for a good book to read to 3rd graders and had seen this one
listed.  I wanted to read it over the summer.  The correct title is "There's
an Owl in the Shower".  It was written by Jean Craighead George in 1995,
published byHarper Collins, $13.95 also available in paperback.  The book
jacket (I now have a copy from the public library!) says ages 7-10, it deals
with logging in California and endangered species.  The summary in the CIP
states:
        "Because protecting spotted owls has cost Borden's father his job as a
logger      in the old growth forest of northern California, Borden intends to
kill any spotted owl he sees, until he and his father find themselves taking
care of a young owlet."

I am a new library media specialist thinking about the beginning of the
school year.  I would like suggestions on good read alouds to use as a
springboard for the first day in the library discussion of library manners
in a K-3 school. If at all possible please list the title and the
appropriate grade level. Thanks!
