Starting off the year

Dear LM_Netters:

It's that time of year again when curriculum planning for the upcoming school
year becomes my main priority!  Last year was my first year and I believe it
could not have been as successful as it was without the help and support of
LM_NET.

For September, I'm going to do orientation to the library and computer lab,
read alouds, book care, rules and procedures.   I'm thinking of starting the
year with "The Library Dragon" and/or "The Librarian from the Black Lagoon".
Are there any other titles that would be good?

Additionally, does anyone have any good "Book Care" lessons?  I believe in
doing those for even the older ones.  Many times it's the older kids who come
into the library with a book that their little sibling got a hold of, the dog
took a bite out of, or an apple decomposed on it!  (true stories from last
year!)

I'm really looking forward to my second year in this profession!!!
