SEATTLE, May 30, 1998  The International Association of School Librarianship
(IASL) has published SCHOOL LIBRARIANSHIP: INTERNATIONAL ISSUES AND
PERSPECTIVES, edited by Ken Haycock and Blanche Woolls. This outstanding
collection of the best international papers begins with Diljit Singh=B9s
survey of the state of the world's school libraries.=20

Papers are then grouped by current theme. Michael Cooke, Paul Lupton, Ross
Todd and Joy McGregor address aspects of Information Literacy; Ken Haycock,
Dianne Oberg, Peggy Heeks and Liz Austrom explore the means of successfully

Jack Stack and Cherrell Shelley-Robinson look at two  Continuing=

Margaret Kinnell Evans, Kathleen Craver and Sandra Olen examine New
Opportunities, particularly connections with teaching and learning and with
emerging technologies.=20

The volume concludes with an index to the annual conference proceedings of
IASL for its first 25 years, 1971=AD1996, and to the IASL Newsletter for the
same period, an invaluable source for locating information on school
libraries and issues worldwide.
