Had a discussion with someone today re: some new schools being built and
their libraries (still in the concept stage). I mentioned the idea that
they really need to have some teaching tools, such as whiteboard, overhead,
places for student seating, etc., because lessons will be taught there, as
in a classroom. The response was that a library is a place that is
accessible to everyone and that if there is a need for classroom teaching
there it should go on in the classroom. Since I don't see how one precludes
the other, and I'd like your opinion.

In your opinion, is a SCHOOL library, in effect, a classroom as well as a
facility that is accessible to all staff and students?

Do you have a writing surface, overhead projector screen, or other teaching
tools in your library? If not, would you prefer to?

Does your library have seating space for students (even if it is sitting on
the floor?) If not would you prefer to have seating space?

Do any of you have experience with libraries that are located as a central
area with other rooms opening from it, so that people must cross through
the library to reach the entrances of other rooms? If so, how do you like
this arrangement?
