I wrote: We've been trying to update our nonfiction titles on computers. So far, the little we have found is either out of date, too advanced, or little more than a yellow pages for kid's web sites. We would like some general, overall how-it-works approaches for K-3 and 3-6. (We have _Kids OnLine_ and like it very much). Any suggestions? Here is what people sent: One series we have that is good for beginners is from True Books of Childrens' Press. There are four in the series: Personal Computers by Charnan and Tom Kazunas- 0-516-20338-X Internet for Kids by Charnan and Tom Kazunas- 0-516-20334-7 World Wide Web by Larry Dane Brimner- 0-516-20345-2 E-Mail by Larry Dane Brimner -0-516-20332-0 This may be a little advanced for you, but our Multimedia teacher likes the DK book called The Complete Guide to Multimedia. It is available from World Almanac and is rated grade 7 and up. "Home Page : An Introduction to Web Page Design (First Books - The Internet and Computers)" Christopher Lampton; Paperback; @ $5.56 each "The World Wide Web (First Books - The Internet and Computers)" Christopher Lampton; Paperback; @ $5.56 each The text is so clear and simple on these, I may use them when teaching the teachers next year.;-) My students in 2nd and 3rd grade enjoyed the Children's Press titles on computers, internet, and e-mail from their new New True Books series. For fun also get Elf Help falalal.com to read at the holidays. Children's Press has two or three "new" titles that are "Internet-based. One is on the World Wide Web, one on E-mail, and I can't remeber the other. These will work well for your primary students! Try looking in the catalog Teacher Created Materials. I have bought several items from them that I have been pleased with. The phone number is 800-662-4321 or the web site is www.teachercreated.com. Good luck.
