We do not use an application. I am at a middle school and I observe the
students as 6th and 7th graders in the library and out in the school. I
also ask teachers for recommendations. Students will ask to work in the
library and I tell them, that we look at 8th grade students and that I
watch and ask others about their behaviors. I then turn in a list of
students we would like to the 8th grade counselor and scheduler. We take
them only for a semester. Some we will keep for the year if they have
worked out well the first semester. We also only take 2 students per
period. I have found that when we do this, it works out best. Many of
the students we suggest are self motivators and after being shown what
is expected they usually will take it on without being reminded.
