Date: Thu, 4 Jun 1998 08:24:22 -0700 From: Debra Kilcup <dkilcup1@MICKEY.ESD113.WEDNET.EDU> nnH123@AOL.COM> Subject: Textbook Repair: Who does it? Subject: GEN Our district superintendant is retiring this year and for his party I have been asked to come up with an appropriate book, poem, or reading to share with those in attendance. I am at a total loss. Any suggestions? Now that school's out is when teachers come in with their mangled books asking if I "have any ideas for how to fix this" or if I "have some tape that will work" to repair the books. I hate to lend out my good tapes that will either be entirely used up or not returned at all, but I don't have the time to take care of all of these books. (These are "stitch in time" type jobs, not the major disasters that require complete rebinding.) I've thought about asking the principal to use textbook money to spring for a variety of repair items for textbooks only and then give teachers the chance to use those materials for their repairs (or maybe say that there will be one day when I'm availble to do the repairs myself). What do you think? I want to be helpful, but I'm not sure that I should consider textbook repair part of my job. BTW, I'm the entire media and technology "department" -- no other adult aides or volunteers. Thanks!
