Help! My textbooks (High School 9-12) are coming back with water damage. Some are "minor" damages (swimsuit or leaky water bottle put in backpack with books). Some are major damages (books left on grass in rain during a soccer game). I'm having a "discussion" with administration regarding water damages as I want to fine negligent students as a consequence so they will be more careful next time. Adminis caving to parent complaints because fine money wouldn't be used torepair damages. In the worst damages, books have begun to grow mold. I've been told to scrape it off with an eraser and "you can't tell it's been there". I know better, but need some support from those of you who have experience in this. Do you fine for water damages? If so, how much? Have you had experience with mold on books? Is mold a health hazard? Will it spread from original spot on book? Does it matter how big it is when discovered (pin head size or watch battery size)? As an aside, do any of you have trouble with water damage due to outdoor lockers? Any help you can give me will be most appreciated.
