Thanks to all of you for the information about telneting from AOL. It is indeed possible to do so. My colleague is so impressed that she says she in my debt! Especially thanks to Jennifer Burger. Once again, thanks to everyone who helped. The instructions are listed below: Yes, you can telnet from AOL. When AOL is open, minimize the AOL window (don't close AOL, just minimize the window). Go to the "Start" button at the bottom of the screen (Windows 95 screen). Go up to "Find" and over to "Files or Folders." Type in "telnet" and push the Enter key. When the telnet icon comes up below where you typed, double-click on it. This will open the telnet window. In the telnet window, use the pull-down menu under "Connect" and choose "Remote System." If she is trying to telnet to jonesnet, she needs to type in jcf.jonesnet.org at this screen. That should get her there! I hope this helps. I left out one thing she could also do so she wouldn't have to repeat the entire process each time. After she has gone to "Find" and over to "Files and Folders" and typed in telnet, the icon for telnet should appear. If she would like, she can click on the icon once and hold as she drags it to the desktop. This will create a shortcut on the desktop. Next time, she can just double-click this shortcut icon after she has minimized her AOL window. Should make it a little easier. ******************************************************************************* Kriste Rees Librarian/Media Specialist E-mail: krees@jcf.jonesnet.org Phone: 501.750.8877 Parson Hills Elementary School Fax: 501.756.8262 Springdale, AR 72764 =-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-==-= To quit LM_NET (or set NOMAIL or DIGEST), Send an email message to listserv@listserv.syr.edu In the message write EITHER: 1) SIGNOFF LM_NET 2) SET LM_NET NOMAIL or 3) SET LM_NET DIGEST * NOTE: Please allow time for confirmation from Listserv.
