SEC: Exam administration

Our high school is currently debating the merits/drawbacks of
administering final exams in the large group setting (gym), versus the
small classroom with individual proctors.

Has anyone got any opinions on either of these arrangements?  So far an
ERIC search  has shown me that this will make a wonderful (yawn)
research topic for some aspiring administrator.
