I think it may be related to the energy saving mode.  You need to check your
owner's manual to see how you get to a place where you can turn off the
energy saver mode that causes it to go to "sleep."  On some of our Compaq
computers you do this by pressing F10 quickly (<2 seconds) after the "beep"
when Win 95 is booting and getting to a kind of "Setup" screen.  On my
Gateway here at home I got to it from the "Setup" screen when Win 95 was
booting.
