GEN : Looking for fairytale with swallow

Hi,
  My sister-in-law just asked about the following:
 "I remember a fairytale (?) about a swallow that
can''t igrate with his friends and is saved from freezing by a statue(?) of
a prince or princess...Ring any bells...We have  Leo Politi's book and
that's not it.  I thought it was based in Europe but it's been a long time
.. I remeber it had something to do with St. Joseph's day."


It didn't ring any bells with me but I figured you all would know.
