TECH: Netscape error message - "HELO"

I'd be very grateful if anyone can tell me what to do when I try to send
mail and get this message:
        An error occurred sending mail.
        The mail server responded:
        Polite people say HELO first
        Please verify that your email address
        is correct in your Mail preferences and try again.

My email address IS correct and all the other settings seem to be correct.
My ISP provider can't seem to see the discrepancy. Has anyone had and
corrected this problem before? TIA
