I am not familiar with any studies that show the more you read, the less
prone you are to violence. This certainly does not mean such studies are
not in existance.

However, one might ponder the fact that the Unibomber, Theodore Kaczynski,
was an avid reader and user of the library. Are we to conclude then from
this case that the more you read, the more prone you are to violent acts?
Of course not.

Bev, I am not arguing your post, or trying to minimize the events in
Arkansas. I am just giving the list some food for thought.

My heart, (as I am sure all of yours) goes out to the school community in
Arkansas after the terrible shooting that took place there yesterday. As
media directors, I was wondering if there is something that we could do for
our children that would impact them even more so that these terrible
tragedies do not happen. I know that we cannot replace effective parents,
but I have been wondering about the effects of reading in relationship to
violence. In other words, does anyone know of studies that indicate that
children who read are less prone to violent acts? Do you think that might
be true? If I get responses to this post, I will post a hit if anyone is
interested. Thanks - Bev
