To librarians who have automated: We have purchased the Alexandria automation system and are ready to purchase the bar codes. We'd like some tips on strategy. Do we order duplicate bar codes, one for shelf list card and its match for item to be cataloged, or is it just as easy to work directly with the item. Once we complete an inventory (We will be doing small sections at a time because we cannot close down the library) can we bypass the shelflist card and enter information directly from the item? We will be using Smartmart (CD) of MARC records to match titles. If we bypass the shelflist, is it necessary to maintain a file of shelflist cards? Any tips on process will be appreciated. Sincerely yours.
