One of our English teachers asked me to help search for a novel that depicts how social class in America today is largely the result of economic differences, ie.; how much money one has, rather than racial, ethnic, or other factors. She gave the example of the film Good Will Hunting, unfortunately that wasn't adapted from a book.We are looking for something like a more contemporary version of An American Tragedy by Dreiser, something that depicts in dramatic narrative how the lack of money can change a young person's life goals. I hope this is clear. Any questions are welcome.
