TECH: Cleaning Winnebago entries

I have just been hired into a new school district that has Winnebago on an IBM
platform. I went to visit the other day and was looking through their
automated catalog to see how the collection looked. I was astonished to find
that there were only 3 entries for Avi. Well, long story short: he is listed
under Avi   Avi.   and Avi,   I was wondering if anyone had an easy way to fix
it? Is there a program that will clean that up? It's not just Avi; it is
almost every author that has multiple books out. I haven't called Winnebago
because I haven't officially started that job, but I have been having dreams,
not really nightmares yet, about trying to fix it. I'm not really looking
forward to going through 11,000 titles to fix it, but I want it fixed. Help
me???
