K-12 schools

Our school district has an enrollment of about 3500 students - one high
school, one jr. high and 6 elementary schools, each with varying grade
levels.  This rural district is quite large, stretching about 20 miles.
There has been talk of making some of the schools K-12.  Concerned patrons
and staff would like reliable information on the pros and cons of such a
program.  If anyone can contribute reliable sources and/or personal
experience in a similar situation, we would really appreciate it.  TIA
