This group has done such a wonderful job on my most knotty problems that I= have another one for you.=20 When I was in grade school we used to look for "vinegar walkers" in the= sand at the beach. We would take them home and put them in a jar or glass= of vinegar. They would move around and make bubbles and slowly dissolve. I= remembered this while trying to come up with "different" projects,= discussions, and demonstrations for a 4th/5th grade class that will be= taking a trip to the coast. Now all I need is the operculums because that= is what they were(are). Can they still be found in the sand at the beach?= Do children in Hawaii (and other coastal places) still do this? If memory= serves, the ones we used are round or almost so and less than 1/2" across,= and of course flat on one side and convex on the other. Sometimes they= were pretty pastel colors but most of the time they were some shade of= white. I would be glad to pay postage, time and all those things if someone= can find a few(because knowing these kids they will want me to do it again,= and again) and send them to me. I tried to do it with a small shell but= they are either too heavy or they turn upside down and refuse to move any= more. =20 Georgia Richards Library Media Specialist Walker Elementary School Ashland, Or=20 garlic@mind.net =-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-==-= To quit LM_NET (or set NOMAIL or DIGEST), Send an email message to listserv@listserv.syr.edu In the message write EITHER: 1) SIGNOFF LM_NET 2) SET LM_NET NOMAIL or 3) SET LM_NET DIGEST * NOTE: Please allow time for confirmation from Listserv.
