SEC: Department Head questions

Folks,

Our school is having discussions on our structure for department heads and
I need some input from as many of you as possible.

1.  What is the process for selecting department heads in your school?

2.  Do they have a specific term (ie: 3 years, 5 years, life)?

3.  What responsibility and authority do they have (curriculum development
for the department, budget & budgeting, departmental inventory, etc...)?
Please send or FAX me a job discription if one exists.

4.  Are they paid a stipend, do they receive an additional duty free period
to conduct departmental business, or is there any other special
dispensation they receive?

5.  Does the library have a member with department head status and
responsibility?
