I would like to give a very deep and sincere thanks to all of the readers
who responded to my "give me a reality check" message from last week. Most
of you did agree that I was not being overly sensitive about the
insensitive attitudes and actions that have recently manifested here. I am
trying to perceive these actions and attitudes as ones caused by habit and
ignorance rather than being deliberately rude. I am currently seeking
employment in both public and school libraries (I have an M.L.S. rather
than an L.M.S., and I am not teacher certified; I work in a private
school). If I am offered a position in a school library where the library
is more than a prep time, and where the library/information specialist is
perceived as someone with value and skills, I will consider such a
position. Otherwise, I will most likely redirect my career towards public
libraries even if this means substituting until I find something with more
hours. THANKS AGAIN FOR ALL OF THE HELP AND SUPPORT I RECEIVE THROUGH THIS
LISTSERV! It is truly a very positive part of my job.
