Douglas High School in Minden, NV,  has a position for a media specialist with a
background in both library science and educational technology.  In addition to a 
full time
clerk, a certified English/Social Studies teacher is scheduled one-half time in the 
Center to
support the media specialist with instruction and cooperative planning with faculty.
        Minden is in the Carson Valley, 13 miles down the mountain from Lake Tahoe, 
45
miles from Reno, NV, and about 200 miles from San Francisco.  The University of
Nevada in Reno offers degrees at the Masters, Ed. D., and Ph. D. levels.  It is the 
ideal
place for the individual or family that enjoys outdoor activities but wants to be 
close to the
advantages of the city.
        Douglas High School is a 10-12, 1400+ comprehensive high school and is
considered one of the top high schools in Nevada.  The media center is a free 
standing,
12,000 sq. ft. building which opened for the 94-95 school year networked with 
software
for research, CIA, desktop publishing and word processing.  The library automation
program is Follett’s Unison, and databases for periodicals, newspapers, and career
information are via the Internet on a T1 line.  The average per student library 
budget for
the last two years has been $12.76 with a separate budget for technology.
        The Douglas County School District’s exit competencies for 12th graders rely
heavily on information access skills that require instruction in the use of a  
large and
variedcollection of resources.  The media specialist is responsible for developing 
and
maintaining this collection using standard collection development and bibliographic 
processes.
