Gingerbread houses

One of my newer teachers is going to be making gingerbread houses with her 6th
grade students and is looking for background information such as their
history,  origens, etc.   I have checked  my collection  of holiday books and
have also found a few sites on the web that have been helpful and informative.
However, since she is hoping to bring her classes in to do research, I don't
feel I have enough information to be of use.  Any suggestions for web sites
that I might have missed?  Do those of you who have web sites up have some
good holiday links that might help us out?
