Dear Colleagues, Our district librarians are preparing an informational presentation on school library budgets. We've included our per-pupil expenditures and those of neighboring districts, but we were all under the impression that there are some national standards which we might cite. Searching the archives and checking the ALA site have not produced results. I read in the October School Library Journal that California's new initiative will provide $27. per pupil. In that same SLJ, an article on school libraries in New Orleans made the statement that the national average per pupil for library materials is $26. Can anyone point me to documented national norms or official standards set by an organization? Yes, I surely will post a hit :-) Thanks for being there.
