Dear all and Nancy--I highly recommend Gale's Worldmark Encyclopedia of the Nations as first choice. As second choice I would nominate World Geographical Encyclopedia by McGraw Hill for geography, and for culture, the set by Marshall Cavendish called Cultures of the World. just my two cents for what they're worth....
