Thank you to all who responded to my query which was: " I am stumped! As a KidsConnect volunteer I received this question tonight. I have looked in quote sources both print and electronic to no avail. Has anybody ever heard of a poem that is anything remotely like this??? I can find sources for the quote but not a poem. "What is the title of the book that contains the poem by Benjamin Franklin entitled "A Fish and a Guest Stink After Three Days"? Many people gave me the source of the saying (Poor Richard's Almanac) and Franklin's probable sources for his saying. If, however, you reread my query above, you will note that I already had located these. What I wanted to know is if anyone had ever seen it in POEM form. One person did suggest that it might be in the book Ben and Me. I did not find it there - but it was a quick peruse, so that still could be a place to look. My probable answer to this child is that I cannot find any resource that indicates that Mr. Franklin ever wrote a poem about the subject, but that in Poor Richard's Almanac, he printed sayings and that this was one of them. Again, thanks for the help - if you-all can't find the answer it probably doesn't exist. ______________________________________ Jamie Murphy Boston, Librarian jamieb@dcn.davis.ca.us A KidsConnect Volunteer SCORE Teacher-on-Assignment Davis Joint Unified School District: Birch Lane Elementary, 1600 Birch Ln. & Pioneer Elementary, 5215 Hamel St. Davis, CA 95616 530-757-5395/5413(FAX); 757-5480/5423(FAX) Visit the Birch Lane Home Page at http://www.birchlane.davis.ca.us ________________________________________________________ Strong school libraries increase student achievement. - California School Library Association =-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-==-= To quit LM_NET (or set-reset NOMAIL or DIGEST), Send email to listserv@listserv.syr.edu In the message write EITHER: 1) SIGNOFF LM_NET 2) SET LM_NET NOMAIL or 3) SET LM_NET DIGEST 3) SET LM_NET MAIL * Please allow for confirmation from Listserv For LM_NET Help & Archives see: http://ericir.syr.edu/lm_net/ =-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=--=-=-=
