Although I have taught 1st grade and was a media specialist for grades 3-5 before, I am now in a k-5 media center and have a few questions on procedures for primary students. 1. Do you let kindergarten check out books right away, or do you go over subjects like book care and things before you let them take out books? 2. Right now my k-2 students select books I have put out on tables. At what grades and at what point of the year do you let students start selecting books off the shelves? 3. And finally, there are 2 pre-k classes in my school and my principal wants me to start class with them 2nd semester. Should this just be a basic storytime, or would you start teaching them the concept of the MC and let them check out books? Thanks so much for sharing your thoughts, and if you have any other pearls of wisdom you think should be shared....please do! I will post a hit of responses. TIA!
