Dear LM_NET folks, I have volunteered to lead a parent/child reading club for gifted middle school students. I am eager and happy to do this, but a bit nervous, since as an elementary LMS I have very little experience working with middle school students. My 7th grade daughter will be participating, and she has firmly requested that I don't act like a librarian or a teacher (and thus embarrass her!) The first book we will be discussing is Philip Pullman's "The Golden Compass". Do any of you wise people have any tips you could share on 1) running a parent/child reading club 2) working with gifted middle schoolers 3) questions that would stimulate higher-level thinking skills for "The Golden Compass"? Thank you so much!
