I have a 7th grade teacher who is currently teaching a unit on Frankenstein. The upper level classes are reading the "real" story and her lower levels are reading a good abridged version. All the kids are "into" the story. Last week a new students transfered in and her parents have said they don't want their child reading such "negative" literature. My teacher feels frustrated and deflated! I've urged her to request a conference with the parents and for us to treat this as a challenge (which it is kinda). I need lots of justification for this unit. A later unit will deal with mythology (and this is a good lead-in) and that could continue the whole can of worms if we don't deal with it now. So I'm asking all you literate, knowledgeable people for help!
