I'm planning on having a Rock 'n Read one day during Children's Book Week. So far all I have planned is to have a 15-30 minute time for each rocking chair for students, teachers, parents, and community/school leaders to come in and read. I am going to give first priority for signing up to rock/read to the children who participated in the summer reading program at our public library. They will also get to have lunch with our local storyteller who will tell stories on the Friday of CBW. If any of you have had a Rock 'n Read before, I would appreciate any ideas you have on making this successful. One concern I have is getting volunteers to come in and rock/read with/to the younger primary children who cannot read. I solicited the staff for rocking chairs and have only about 7-10 so far. I'm hoping to get more. We are a Pre-3 with six handicapped classes and have approximately 320 students.
