Friends, the president of the PTA has asked me to present the idea of book donations to the library at the Monday meeting. Very little notice. I would suggest books selected in the name of children for birthdays or some other reason..a great report card...whatever. I would provide a list of titles for the adult to pick from. (We have no budget for purchasing books in advance for the adult to select from.) A book label with the child's name would be placed in the book and the child would be the first to sign out the book, after which it would be part of the regular library colection. We do not have paperbacks in our library due to the short shelf life. I would explain the way I use review materials to select books in a general way so that the idea that we cannot accept just any book would be understood. (We have had some inappropriate books sent to us in the past.) Am I missing something important? I have not had time to check with colleagues here and this concept is not in use at other schools in our district at this time. I would be the first. Thank you for any ideas you could offer.
