I would like your reading recommendations for children who are reading well above their grade level. I am accustomed to requests for Hi/Lo materials, bur our district has been successful in reading interventions and strategies, and some children are reading quite well while they are in first or second grade. My principal has asked for books appropriate to a scond grade maturity level with a fifth or sixth grade reading level. Here is what I came up with off the top of my head; please let me know what I have missed. I will repost as a HIT if there is interest. Thanks in advance for your help. Recommended authors for young students with high reading ability: Alcott, Louisa B. / Little Women, etc. Byars, Betsy / Most titles Cleary, Beverly / Most titles Farley, Walter / Horse books Henry, Marguerite / Horse books King-Smith, Dick / Most titles L'Engle, Madeline / Wrinkle in Time series Lewis, C. S. / Chronicles of Narnia McBride / New Little House on the Prairie series Montgomery, L. M. / Anne of Green Gables series Norton, Mary / Borrowers series, Bedknobs and Broomsticks Spyri / Heidi White, E.
