DEPUTY EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR
American Association of School Librarians (AASL)
A Division of the American Library Association

AASL is seeking candidates for the position of Deputy Executive Director
to support the activities and projects of the association.  AASL's mission
is to advocate excellence, facilitate change, and develop leaders in the
school library media field.

General responsibilities will include coordination of the AASL National
Conference, ALA Annual Conference programs and preconferences,
and regional institutes; support and assistance to members serving in
elected and appointed capacities as well as to general members of the
division; management of the AASL office in the absence of the director;
provision of advisory and/or referral information about school library
media programs to members of the library and education communities, as
well as to the general public; supervision of special projects.

The successful candidate will be able to work effectively with the AASL
members and governing groups as well as division and association staff;
possess strong oral, written, and technology based communication skills;
be able to organize and to delegate work around competing priorities.

Preferred qualifications include an MS in librarianship from an
ALA-accredited program or master's degree with a specialty in school
library media from an educational unit accredited by the National Council
for the Accreditation of Teacher Education and recent experience in
school library media programs.  Additionally, experience in planning and
implementing continuing education programs and/or general program
management is highly desirable.

Salary on this position is negotiable from the high 40's.  Excellent benefit
