ELEM; 4th grade books about courage

A teacher is putting together a unit with a theme of surviving against the
elements. She is looking for books for fourth graders who are reading in
the 2nd to 6th grade range.  So far we have "Call it Courage", "Island of
the Blue Dolphins", and "My Side of the Mountain".  She can't use "Sign of
the Beaver" because that is on the fifth grade agenda.  "Hatchet" might be
too mature for beginning 4th graders. Please include any biographies or
books on explorers you can think of too.  Does anyone have any
suggestions? Please reply to me personally.  I'll post a hit if there's
