GEN: Middle school club

THe middle school head just approach me wants me to hold a 1 period per
week club or activity for 12-20 students. In the past the last period of
the day was always a study hall when students can use the library.  Now
she wants me to close the library  once a week during that period and
offer some kind of academically orientated activity. I already have a
Battle of the Books contest conducted through the English department.  And
a "reading club" sounds so blah.
Do you have any suggestions?
