ELEM: uses for old filmstrips?

I am cleaning out the AV closet (see filmloop player post).  There are LOTS
of old filmstrips which I assume are mostly too dated to be of use as is.
I once heard something about stripping the images off with a bleach
solution and using the resulting clear film for art work (either abstract
or a student-drawn film strip).  Does anyone have more details, like
specifics of the stripping?  One of my teachers wants to try it.

Or does anyone have any other ideas for uses of old filmstrips?
