ELEM: 3rd grade read-aloud

I have a 3rd grade teacher looking for something new to read to her 3rd grade
class to begin the new school year.  She is looking for a chapter book dealing
with the theme(s) of getting along together, new friendships, cooperation.
She has read _Muggie Maggie_ for the past couple of years and would like
"something different" this year.  Suggestions?  TIA   (I'd really love to
"wow" her since we have begun flexible scheduling this year and right now I am
NOT the most popular person in my building!!)
