Forwarded Message--------- >This sounds rather scary! Are you sure that "they" are "asleep" at night? >Or are "they" busy doing things we would rather not know about? Sounds >like a good plot for a Sci-Fi story to me. >John Meckler, Librarian John and all, Too bad it's already been done!! When I was a teen (early 70's) I read a story about a computer that was attempting to warn the world about another, bigger, more powerful computer that was plotting to kill a man. The bigger computer was systematically going through the system and deleting all traces of this man's existence in every computer in the country. Officially, the man would no longer exist, no birth record, social security, tax, employment, health education, etc. history. Just as the "good" computer was going to give the name of the "bad" computer's intended victim, the "bad" computer gets to it and deletes its memory of the man and the plot. His life was so devastated that he committed suicide. The "bad" computer was doing it just because it could and because it was bored (Its designers had made it so powerful that no amount of human work or programming could fulfill it). Does anyone remember having read this and know the title and author??
