This is a multi-part message in MIME format. ------=_NextPart_000_00D5_01BEE81C.5F8F2EA0 Content-Type: text/plain; charset="iso-8859-1" Content-Transfer-Encoding: quoted-printable Hello, everyone! It's nice to have the opportunity to unlurk today and to read comments from other unlurkers. (I've only written once or twice, but I sometimes respond to=20 individuals about their topics.) These discussions have been an immense help to me in what I can only call my "career change." I joined this list 7 years ago. In fact, I believe I was one of the original 100 or so members. I remember it well because I was taking my final summer courses at Pitt (1992) when I joined. Since then I've had at least six different email addresses, but I kept subscribing each time I got a new account. After I earned my masters degree, I returned to my teaching position in my school district, and two years later I became the school librarian. I was so eager to apply what I had learned from my studies! I soon discovered that the electronic conversion had been only partially completed, and the library software had never been used. (In fact, only the book circulation part of the software had been purchased.) I immediately added SIRS, SMAS, word processing, and internet computers. During the past five years I have often felt as though I were running a three-ring circus. (Some day I'll write a best-seller describing my trials and tribulations!) Anyway, this summer a library network was finally installed, and my students will now be able to use library computers=20 to search for books. The card catalog will soon be history, and I am finally where I thought I should have been 5 years ago! I guess progress takes time, but persistence eventually pays off. Have a great day, everyone, and a wonderful school year!
