I was asked by several people to post a hit. Thank you to all who responded! My original request was: I am planning on reading a picture book to the whole school K-6 on the first day of school (Sept.8). I'll do this in the all-purpose-room, projecting the illustrations onto a screen. I thought it would be a great way to start off the school year and get the kids excited about the library this year. I was going to read Thank you, Mr. Falker by Patricia Polacco, but now that I am reading it again, I am thinking that it might be too "heavy" for the first day. Does anyone have any suggestions for a short read-aloud picture book to read to K-6 students to start off the year on the right foot? Thank you in advance for your help! Here are the suggestions: Library Lil Double Trouble in Walla Walla by Andrew Clements Library Dragon The librarian from the black lagoon by Mike Thaler Oh, How I wished I could read! by John Gile David goes to school Dear Children of the Earth Our Ocean Home The teacher from the black lagoon Spider School Wilma Unlimited I took my frog to the library Odd Velvet Chrysanthemum Aunt Chip and the Great Triple Creek Dam Affair by Patricia Polacco Horray for Diffendoofer Day Miss Nelson is Missing Officer Buckle and Gloria Lunch bunnies by Lasky --- Mary Ellen Hamalainen Elementary Library Media Specialist Bloomfield NJ <hamalainen@earthlink.net> =-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-==-= All postings to LM_NET are protected under copyright law.
