Our elementary school has been implementing a program called HOSTS, which makes use of adult volunteers in the community to mentor students who are struggling in reading skills. The volunteers come in throughout the week to listen to the child read, read with him/her, etc. We are looking for new ways to recruit mentors. Have any of you had success with a program such as this? How did you convince adults to become involved?
