Thanks to those who sent Subject: Re: LM_NET Digest - 27 Aug 1999 to 28 Aug 1999 There were two suggestions: 1) File Manage identities Properties Type in name 2) Tools/Accounts/Mail/Properties/General, type in name In _both_ places, my name is listed as Deb L., yet as you see, my mail is _still_ going out with my full name! This is strange!! Any other suggestions? I'm using Win98, IE, Outlook Express 5 (version 5.00.2014.211) on an Acer Aspire. They asked me to remove all copies of those titles from the library to avoid having their students reading those books they will be studying. >> I am posting this to the list because I have a question related to this discussion that I would like to have answered from someone who has taught reading. Why is it that in the 24years since I have graduated from High School, educators have decided that the best way to teach a novel is to read it in class, chapter by chapter, so that students cannot immerse themselves in the book? Also, when was it decided that a student could get no benefit from reading a book in a class that they had already read for themselves? I have a son who loves to read, but has never enjoyed a single classroom novel because he has to read it at the pace of the slowest member of the class, then wait for the teacher to catch up (throwing in other lessons so she can meet state standards, etc.) It took his 6th grade class nine weeks to read "The Whipping Boy." By time they were done, it was difficult to remember what had happened in the first few chapters. You can reply to me if you want to express your opinion. I'm just curious as to whether there are any studies that have shown this to be an effective way to teach reading.
