Dear Colleagues, Since there were requests for a hit regarding books which talked about following rules and /or directions, the following list was made with the help of Teena C., Judy, Kathy G., Kathy S., Faith W., Ann C., Nell F., and Paula N. Thank you for your suggestions. ************************************************************ Mrs. Piggle Wiggle Lilly's Purple Plastic Purse by Henkes Why do We Have Rules by Carolyn Arnold ************************************************************ There's a Clifford book called Clifford's Manners (Bridwell) that I have used to talk about manners and rules. And to welcome the kids back to school, I read Arthur's Back to School Day (Hoban) which turned out to start a good discussion of rules on the school bus. But we talked about Media Center rules too. Arthur learns that you can't take dogs on the bus, and my kids all piped up that it was because you might be allergic! How our sensitivities have changed. ************************************************************ a lot of patricia polacco books officer buckle and gloria a lot of robert mensch books ************************************************************ I read Henkes' Chrysanthemum and was pleased with the student's discussion of no putdowns and being kind to others. ************************************************************ The story of Peter Rabbit comes to mind about about dire consequences at time for not obeying (not a popular word, but it is evident that we need to get back to the concept, in my opinion!). ************************************************************** The boy who cried wolf comes quickly to my mind. *************************************************************** Another book for good discussion of "no put downs" is Ghost Eye Tree. -- Laurel Brunell, Media Specialist Orland Center School Orland Park, IL brunell@interaccess.com =-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-==-= All postings to LM_NET are protected under copyright law.
