As semester's end, I've been spending a considerable amount of time with MLA, 5 th edition. See Section 5.4.8 which states "when included in parenthetical references, the titles of the books in the Bible and famous literary works are often abbreviated (1 Chron. 21.8, Rev. 21.3 etc.)." They also have a list of the abbreviations used for the books of the Bible in section 6.7.1. Hope this helps. This is only my second post to the list. Is it OK to respond to questions like this directly to the list, or should I have responded to the author of the email? Adis C.
