Gen: Compaq Presario? HP?

my faithful Micron P90 is showing its age.  I of course am not.  So I am
thinking of buying a lowend Compaq, the Presario 5441, for home.  I am a
bit afraid of the compaq's being proprietary in architecture, that is only
repairable with genuine compaq parts.

is this so?  anyone have any experiences with Compaq Presario?  please let
me know, pro and con.

I am also considering an HP Brio; same questions and concerns.

Funny, the Micron was a 2200 dollar item in 94.  Now I am wondering about
spending 550 to 800 on its replacement.
